hi iam having problems with my dads galaxy its a 2.8 v6 1999 on lpg, this fault does it on petrol and lpg.driving along the road in every gear it pulls to around 3500 rpm then its like its hit a wall very gutless and poor on mpg,ive changed plugs,ht leads, coil pack and maf sensor which made it slightly better but not 100 %,when driving under load iam getting a loud induction noise from airbox.its been giving me knightmares and head aches, any help would be much appreciated or it will find itself going in the iron lol

ive also tried blanking of the egr valve and had someone holding the revs so i can see how much pressure is coming out of the exhaust and feels like loads.its cost me just over 300 pound for coil pack,ht leads spark plus and maf sensor, any help would be much appreciated

majority of people on here are oil burner lovers, you'll find them most nights in the bar on the corner cuddling their half of shandy discussing their latest mpg figures while discussing the latest episode of the archers

check the condition of the air hose from the throttle body to the airbox, take it off and check for splits and holes? if there are any? the maf will be being bypassed and the management system wont get a true reading!

ha ha ha lol, that was one of the first thing i tried, but will double check again, thanks

i think the exhaust might be partially blocked, whilst reving it up it seems to be not reving correctly        :P

Hopefully you'll get some clues from VAGCOM - I'm a newbie and found it easy to use. Almost makes diagnosing faults on cars with an ecu as easy as on say um a triumph herald cars. If only there was a simple way to find out what the ecu thinks its supposed to do under various circumstances instead of just getting fault codes, but I suppose manufacturers would say it's cost a fortune so it's secret or something... There's been some reports of duff new MAF's on some forums,(joy) but I wonder if it might be worth doing some sort of test on the induction system to see if it leaks given your odd induction noise? Also come across reports of cat getting clogged - but I'm one of those oil burners so it might not have been relevant to your dad's car. Good luck! Incidentally be interested to know what you thought of car generally - LPG 2.8 quite attractive thought....

well my vag com turned up,downloaded the software, plugged it in and guess what.idle speed fault.mmm so why is it so gutless, suppose the next port of call is a compression test.apart from te lack of power my dads loves this car think he gets around 30 mpg on gas, cost him around 3 grand for the conversion 5 years ago.it will be a shame to weigh it in at my local scrap yard as its clean and still drives well.but it does permantly give me a head ache   :23: :23: :23: :23: :23:

Sorry you didn't get anything more definite. That's the downside to this ecu business, if only it told you why it was limiting things - or even if!

You never know though, one of the other readers may come back with an "ah ha!" reply. Do you think the idle fault is real?

As a diesel owner I don't know exactly what you can get, but it might be worth trying some of the blocks - you'd think if something was widely out it would throw a fault code, but I don't know if it does. I've found some stuff where the requested ecu figure differs from the actual by quite a lot, and that can be a bit of a clue.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on...

I have a 2.3 mk2 LPG'd for the last 5 years, and i too suspect my cat is blocked due to similar symtoms to yours, the car appears to be flat and down on power or should i say more than usual  , I'm sure you already know if it isn't right on petrol then it won't be on the the gas anyhow i am about to replace the said part tomorrow afternoon so i will let you know how i get on.

Well changed the thing today and while the car is definately more responsive and smoother can't really say the power has increased any although may need to give the ecu time to adjust, sorry i can't offer yopu much in the way of hope!
